March 23, 2006 - International Hockey League 2 (IHL 2)
Richmond RiverDogs News Release
RICHMOND, VA - Brian Goudie's two goals, both on the power play, and 3 point night along with Mike Owen's first goal as a pro were main highlights in the RiverDogs 5-2 win over the Roanoke Valley Vipers as the Dogs begin the first game of a three game homestand. Lyon Porter and Mike Oliveira added goals for the RiverDogs. For Oliveira, it was his 49th goal of the season. Captain Dan Vandermeer posted a pair of assists. The RiverDogs were deadly on the power play as the team capitalized three times on seven opportunities. Mike D'Alessandro, last week's Southern Sports Supply UHL Goaltender of the Week, was in nets for the RiverDogs as he stopped 25 of 27 shots.
With the victory, the RiverDogs record goes to 31-25-6, 68 points, 9th place overall in the UHL standings but creeping closer to 8th seed Quad City, who was idle tonight. The Mallards have 69 points but the RiverDogs have two games in hand. The top two teams in each division go into the Colonial Cup Playoffs, and then the two teams with the best overall outside the six will advance. Motor City, who won tonight, holds the 7th spot with 75 points, however they have played three games more than the RiverDogs. The next game for the RiverDogs is this Friday night, 7:35 pm when the team plays host to the Roanoke Valley Vipers for the final time this season.
