Rockford IceHogs News Release
Flint, Mich.- The Rockford IceHogs fell to the Flint Generals Friday night 5-3 at the Perani's Hockey World Arena and Events Center in Flint, Michigan. Rockford's power play went just 1-for-10 and Generals forward Jim Duhart made his return to the line-up and had 1g-3a-4pts.
The Generals were first to score when John DiPace broke in on a breakaway. DiPace had the puck poked checked away from him by Hogs goalie Michel Robinson, but the puck deflected back over Robinson and in the net off of an IceHogs defenseman at 10:43. The Hogs responded when Vince Malts was set up perfectly by Brent Sullivan at 11:09 to tie the contest. Later, center J.C. Ruid gave Rockford the lead with a marker at 15:37 of the first.
The only goal of the second period came at the 9:13 mark when rookie winger Mike Kinnie knocked home his first goal of the night on the power play. Kinnie then tallied again on the power play to give the Generals the lead back at 4:18 of the third period.
After going 0-for-9 on the power play, Rockford had one last opportunity on the man advantage. With only three seconds left on the Hogs 10 advantage of the night, center Olivier Proulx punched in a rebound past Generals goalie Marco Emond at 16:33 of the third.
Then Duhart, traded back to Flint Wednesday from the Danbary Trashers, excited the crowd and helped put the game away. The veteran forward picked the pocket of rookie defenseman Kevin Klein at 18:16 and scored on a breakaway goal to give Flint the 4-3 lead. Winger Bobby Reynolds would then tally an empty net goal with just eight-seconds left to seal the game.
Next Home Game: Friday, December 10 vs. Quad City Mallards. Game time is 7:05 p.m. The Hogs and Mallards clash once again at the MetroCentre. The first 1,000 fans to the game will receive an IceHogs Smash Hit Hockey Poster #3 from Medicine Man, Johnson Press, Pepsi, Rockford Register Star and 97ZOK.
