Roanoke Valley Vipers News Release

ROANOKE, VA - The Roanoke Valley Vipers, member of the United Hockey League (UHL), appear to have put their recent seven-game losing slide completely behind them, winning their fourth game of the last six they've played Wednesday night at the Roanoke Civic Center. The Vipers led for the duration of the game, beating the visiting Flint Generals by a final score of 4-1.

Mike Wiggins continued his point-scoring tear as a Viper, netting a goal at the 6:08 mark of the first period for his third point in just five games in a Roanoke Valley uniform. Petr Jelinek received the assist on the goal, which got the Vipers on the board. L.P. Martin would put number two on the scoreboard for the Vipers in the second period off assists from David Beauregard and Branislav Kvetan at the 3:25 mark.

Flint would score their lone goal of the game at 11:17 of the period, but David Beauregard upped the Vipers' lead back to two a minute and three seconds later at 12:20 with assists from Travis Smith and Jim Quilty. Beauregard would seal the win with the fourth Vipers goal on a breakaway pass from Nathan Riddell at 11:03 of the third.

Jamie Hodson was outstanding in the net for the Vipers, making 39 saves of 40 Generals shots. The Vipers netminder kept goal for the tenth consecutive game as Roanoke's backup Shawn Conschafter has been out with a broken finger. The Vipers have moved one win closer to getting back to the .500 mark, improving their record to 11-12-4 with 26 points in the Eastern Division Standings, maintaining sole possession of third place. They will look to continue their win streak on Friday in Glens Falls, New York as they are hosted by the second-place Adirondack Frostbite.
