Potomac and Wilmington split a four-game series after the Blue Rocks defeated the P-Nats 2-0 in the finale Tuesday night.
Wilmington starter Ivor Hodgson was dominant, tossing six scoreless innings on the way to his fifth win of the season. The left-hander allowed only five hits in the shutout.
Potomac starter Evan Bronson was solid as well, holding the Blue Rocks to just two runs in seven innings of work. But without any run support, Bronson was charged with his sixth loss of the season.
Justin Phillabaum came in to relieve Bronson in the eighth and limited the Rocks to one hit.
Potomac reliever Dan Leatherman came in to pitch the ninth and tossed his sixth consecutive scoreless outing. Leatherman last allowed a run on June 15 at Myrtle Beach and has not allowed a hit or a run in 12 of his last 13 outings.
Wilmington posted one run in the third and another in the fifth. Rey Navarro led off the third with a double to left, moved to third on a sacrifice bunt by Patrick Norris and scored on a double by Jarrod Dyson.
Navarro led off the fifth with a single, then Fernando Garcia registered a two-out, infield single to put runners on first and second for Eric Hosmer. Hosmer belted a two-run double, but the second run was negated on an appeal at third base. Garcia failed to tag third on his way home, and was put out 1-5. With the appeal, Hosmer's double became a single under rule 10.06 b.
Brendan Lafferty pitched two more scoreless innings for the Blue Rocks before Barry Bowden retired the side in order in the ninth for his seventh save of the year.
Potomac second baseman Steve Lombardozzi was 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles in the loss. Left fielder Brian Peacock was 2-for-4 as well.
The P-Nats travel to Frederick for a three-game series with the Keys beginning Wednesday. Trevor Holder will face Cole McCurry, with the first pitch scheduled for 7 p.m.
