Hockey Weekend Across America Comes to Dubuque Friday
February 16, 2012 - United States Hockey League (USHL)
Dubuque Fighting Saints News Release
DUBUQUE, Iowa - A nationwide celebration will make its mark in Dubuque on Friday night. When the Fighting Saints host the Muskegon Lumberjacks at 7:05 p.m., they will be participating in the fifth annual celebration of Hockey Weekend Across America. The festivities will celebrate the game of hockey and a silent and live auction of NHL memorabilia signed by former USHL players will raise funds for children in the tri-state area to Try Hockey for Free.
Five autographed NHL jerseys will be auctioned live after Friday's game in the DB&T Club. The jerseys belong to Boston Bruins' Joe Corvo (USHL Team - Omaha) and Steven Kampfer (Sioux City), Columbus Blue Jackets winger Jared Boll (Lincoln), Minnesota Wild defenseman Nate Prosser (Sioux Falls) and Tampa Bay Lightening winger Teddy Purcell (Cedar Rapids).
Silent auction items include photographs, pucks from players such as the Chicago Blackhawks' Patrick Sharp (Thunder Bay), Dallas Stars Adam Burish (Green Bay), Alex Goligoski (Sioux Falls) and Toby Petersen (Fargo-Moorhead), Detroit Red Wings Ty Conklin (Green Bay) and Drew Miller (Omaha), Florida Panthers' Scott Clemmensen (Des Moines), and Los Angeles Kings Davis Drewiske (Des Moines), Matt Greene (Green Bay), Trevor Lewis (Des Moines), Alec Martinez (Cedar Rapids) and Scott Parse (Tri-City).
Proceeds from the auction will go to purchase ice time in conjunction with the Dubuque Youth Hockey Association to hold "Try Hockey for Free" clinics in the coming weeks and months. There are two clinics already scheduled, March 24 and May 6, and information is available at dubuquehockey.org.
The popularity of hockey in Dubuque has perhaps never been higher. With the Fighting Saints having hoisted the Clark Cup not twelve months ago and the team locked in a key playoff battle in the 2011-12 season, the club set a season-high attendance figure this past Saturday, February 11, packing 3,373 fans into the Mystique Community Ice Center for the 3-0 win over Cedar Rapids last Friday night.
Tickets for Friday's game are still available online at DubuqueFightingSaints.com, by phone at (563) 583-6880 and at the Mystique Community Ice Center Box Office from 9 a.m. throughout the game.
