GASTONIA, N.C - The Thomasville HiToms used a five-run fifth inning to break open a one-run game as they defeated the Gastonia Grizzles 9-4 on Thursday night at Sims Legion Park.

Thomasville (1-2) scored three runs in the first inning all of the bat of Ryan Kinsella who connected for his first homer of the season. But, Gastonia (1-2) answered in the bottom half of the inning with a two-run single off Justin Vasquez's bat to trim the lead to 3-2 after one.

Conner Scarborough (W, 1-0) was shaky to start the game but settled down to work eight very strong innings striking out six to save a much beleaguered HiToms bullpen.
