Hitmen Rally to Dump Wheats
December 9, 2015 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Brandon Wheat Kings News Release
Brandon, MB. - The Calgary Hitmen scored four third period goals to score a 6-4 come from behind victory over the hometown Brandon Wheat Kings Tuesday night.
Local product Jordy Stallard scored twice - including the game winner with five minutes to play - as the Hitmen rallied from a 4-2 third period deficit to hand the Wheat Kings their eighth loss on home ice this season.
Brandon is now 17-9-1-2 and will be looking to get back on track Wednesday night in Moose Jaw.
"It's a game that we had good control of and didn't get the job done in the third period," said Brandon GM/Coach Kelly McCrimmon on CKLQ's post-game show. "Disappointing on home-ice, we aren't good enough on home-ice this year so far, disappointing as well with the number of things that we did do well over the course of the night."
Ivan Provorov, who leaves Thursday to join Team Russia in preparation for the World Junior Hockey Championships in Finland, Tim McGauley, Macoy Erkamps and John Quenneville scored in a losing cause for the Wheat Kings, who closed out this week's 3-game WHL home stand with a 1-1-1-0 record.
Quenneville and injured Jayce Hawryluk also leave Thursday as they will join McCrimmon at the National Junior Selection Camp in Toronto.
Leading 3-2 through forty minutes of play, the Wheat Kings got that all important fourth goal seven minutes into the third, only to see Calgary strike back with three goals - five minutes apart - to grab its first lead of the game.
The Hitmen, who are now the hottest team in the WHL with nine wins in their last eleven games (9-1-1-0), outshot Brandon 36-30.
Following Wednesday's game, the Wheat Kings return home for back to back games this weekend against Lethbridge and Kelowna on Friday and Saturday nights. Saturday's game will feature the annual Shoppers Mall Teddy Bear Toss, in support of the Local Christmas Registry.
Tickets to both games are on sale at the Keystone Centre box office, by calling 726-3555 or online at keystonecentre.com.
