Hitmen End Regular Season with Loss to Edmonton
March 26, 2023 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Calgary Hitmen News Release
Calgary, AB - The Calgary Hitmen closed out their 68-game regular season schedule this afternoon as they welcomed the Edmonton Oil Kings to Scotiabank Saddledome. Highlights included the Hitmen Players Awards presented by Elite Promotional Marketing. A total of 10 trophies were handed out in a special pre-game ceremony.
It would be Edmonton to open up the scoring on the powerplay in the first period courtesy of Marshall Finnie. A major penalty against Calgary would put them on the kill for five minutes in the second, but Sean Tschigerl would tie the game up shorthanded. With the tally, the forward reached the milestone of 150 career points. The third remained scoreless for the majority of the period. Looking like the game was headed to extra minutes, Loick Daigle put one past Ethan Buenaventura with less than 30 seconds remaining to win the game for Edmonton.
Calgary finishes the season in seventh place in the Eastern conference with 70 points and has clinched a playoff spot for the first time since 2019. They will face the Red Deer Rebels in a best-of-seven opening round series that begins Friday in Central Alberta. See the complete series schedule presented by Nutrien below:
