North Shore Navigators News Release
Lynn, Mass.-Shortly before the Navigators took the field for their 7:00 game against the Old Orchard Beach Raging Tide, a major announcement broke from the front office. Manager Jon Cahill announced a blockbuster trade just before the 5:00 trade deadline that sent Navigators' slugger Derek Hirsch (St. Thomas Aquinas) to the Wachusett Dirt Dawgs in exchange for outfielder Jamill Moquete (UMass Boston).
Hirsch had been a force in the middle of the lineup as he was hitting .340 with seven runs scored, one double, and four RBIs in just 15 games for the Navigators. Perhaps Hirsch's biggest moment of the Navigators came when he hit a walk off single against the Pittsfield Suns on July 24 th to send the Navigators off with a 2-1 win.
"We will definitely miss Hirsch's bat in the middle of our lineup, "said Cahill. "At the same time we are looking forward to adding Jamill to our lineup. He was an all-star this season and is one of the best hitters in our league. We look forward to see him and Tim Hendricks in the same lineup."
Moquete is hitting .350 so far this season in including 34 runs scored, 10 doubles, 7 home runs, and 29 RBIs. He also has an on-base percentage of .465 and a slugging percentage of .571.
The move comes as the Navigators are beginning to push for the playoffs. The Navigators end their regular season on Friday the 9 th and then begin their playoffs on Sunday. For up to the minute Navigator news please visit www.nsnavs.com.
