Hillsboro Hops News Release

TONIGHT: The Hillsboro Hops and Everett Aquasox wrap up a five-game series in front of a capacity crowd at Ron Tonkin Field in Hillsboro.

LAST NIGHT: Hillsboro RHP Scott Schultz earned his first professional win, though it was tenuous at the end.

The Hops built a 6-0 lead behind a pair of ground- rule doubles from 2B Pedro Ruiz and three RBIs from C Tyler Baker. Everett came back to close the gap to 8-7 on three swings-a 3-run triple by SS Nelson Ward, a solo HR by DH Adam Martin and a 3-run HR by RF Corey Simpson. Then, facing Hops LHP Zac Curtis in the 9th, Everett put runners on 2nd and 3rd with one out. The game ended on an odd 6-4-2-6 DP, with Everett's Chris Mariscal and Nelson Ward both getting tagged out on the bases.

HOPPIN' WITH EXCITEMENT: Nine of the Hops' 20 games have been decided by one run, tied with Salem-Keizer & Everett for most in the NWL (Hillsboro is 6-3 in those games and has the most one-run wins). 14 of the Hops' 20 games have been decided by 1 or 2 runs, the most in the NWL (Hillsboro is 9-5 in those games). In 2013, the Hops led the NWL in 1-run games with 27 (13-14).

POWER SUPPLY? The Hops have hit 7 HR in 20 games, 2nd-fewest in the NWL (Vancouver has 3).

With Todd Glaesmann's promotion to AA Mobile a week ago, only two current Hops have gone yard: SS Justin Gonzalez (3) and LF Grant Heyman (2).

RUN DIFFERENTIAL: It's no surprise that Spokane, whose 15-5 record is the best in the NWL, also has the best run differential at +43 (108 runs scored/65 against). Vancouver is second at +22 (94/72) and the Hops are third at +13 (82/69). Boise would seem to be better than their 9-11 record, with a run differential of +10 (120/110).

PITCHING AND DEFENSE: The Hops' 3.07 ERA is third in the league, but their starters ERA is just 2.30 (the relievers' ERA is 4.06).

The Hops' 19 errors are fewest in the NWL, with more than 1/4 of those (5) coming in Monday night's loss to Everett.
