July 13th, 2008 -- 1:35 PM

Judy Johnson Field @ Frawley Stadium

LHP Brian Holliday (3-8, 5.93) vs. RHP Mario Santiago (7-5, 3.74)

THE HILLCATS: Last night Lynchburg dropped the opener of a four-game series against Wilmington at Frawley Stadium...The Hillcats have now lost three in a row after winning eight out of nine...Lynchburg is beginning a stretch of 18 out of 22 games on the road...

VS. WILMINGTON: This season the Rocks are 8-5 against the Cats and 5-2 at Frawley Stadium...The Hillcats went just 3-16 against.the Blue Rocks in 2007 and were 2-8 at Wilmington...Last year the Rocks had two 4-game sweeps and two 3-game sweeps of the Cats...Wilmington holds the all-time advantage in the series 157-113 and are 83-54 at home against Lynchburg...

NINTH INNING LEAD: Last night marked the first time this season that Lynchburg lost a lead they took into the ninth...Prior to their loss a night ago the Hillcats were 34-0 when leading after eight innings...

WILMINGTON WALK-OFFS: Lynchburg has lost four games this season in walk-off fashion, two of them have been by the Blue Rocks at Frawley Stadium...In their series opener of their last set in Wilmington on June 29th, David Wood hit the game winning RBI single in the ninth...Last night pinch hitter Cory Strait smacked the game-winning double down the left field line...

FORGET ABOUT IT: In the opener last night Lynchburg blew a five-run lead by allowing six unanswered runs, committed two errors (one that led to two unearned runs in the second inning and another that allowed the game-winning run to score), got caught stealing in a double steal attempt, got picked off and blew their first ninth inning lead of the season after coming one strike away from the victory...

EARLY BOMBS: Lynchburg hit three home runs in the first three innings for the first time all season...Jim Negrych hit his third homer of the season in the first, Kris Watts knocked out his first long ball in the second and Alex Presley smacked a no doubt shot for his fifth dinger on the campaign in the third...It was just the third time this season that the Hillcats have hit three home runs in a game (5/3 vs. KIN, 6/19 @ KIN)...

ROCKIN THE ROCKS: Jamie Romak has crushed Blue Rocks pitching this season, batting .412 (14-for-34) with three doubles, two home runs, eight runs and six RBI in nine games...Combine that with his tremendous year against Wilmington last year and he is hitting .351 with 11 doubles, a triple, seven home runs, 20 runs and 20 RBI in 27 games against the Rocks...

FIRST AT FIRST: Last night was the first game in his six-year professional career at first base for Jamie Romak...Romak has played right field this season and left field as well last year as a Hillcats...His first two years as a pro he played third base...

NEW ROCKS: The two newest Blue Rocks, Brad Correll and Cody Straight, have both been coming through thus far in their time in Wilmington...Correll, a Hillcat in 2006, homered on Friday night and had three hits, three RBI and a run scored against the Cats last night...Straight, clocked the game-winning double last night, it was the third time in ten games as a Blue Rock that he has collected a game-winning hit...

TODAY'S OPPOSING PITCHER: RHP Mario Santiago was selected in the 16th round of the 2005 June Free Agent Draft by Kansas City...In '05 he pitched rookie ball for the Royals and went a combined 0-4 with 7.27 ERA...In 2006 he made 12 appearances (eight starts) with Low-A Burlington and went 3-6 with a 5.37 ERA...Last year he returned to the Bees and posted a 5-10 record with a 3.74 ERA in 26 games (20 starts)...This season he has advanced to Wilmington and gone 7-5 with a 3.74 ERA in 17 starts...Santiago has made two starts against Lynchburg and gone 1-1 with a 6.48 ERA...The first of those two was his shortest and worst start of the year (five earned runs allowed in an inning and 1/3) and the second was his longest and one of his best (one earned run in seven innings)...
