Lynchburg Hillcats News Release

Frederick, MD - Pitching reigned supreme in Frederick again on Sunday as the Hillcats fell to the Keys 2-1 in the series finale. The Hillcats had won the first three games of the weekend series but came up a run short in their attempt at a sweep.

The Hillcats looked like they were going to strike first for the sixth straight game in the top of the first after Phil Gosselin singled and Todd Cunningham doubled, putting runners at second and third with one out. However, Adam Milligan and Joey Terdoslavich both went down swinging unable to bring any runs home.

The Hillcats swung the bats well finishing with nine hits on the day, but failed to come through with runners on base. The team was 1-for-6 with runners in scoring position with no RBI. The only hit a tapped groundball to third off the bat of Gosselin that moved L.V. Ware from second to third, but both runners would end up stranded on the base paths.

Frederick put both their runs on the board in the bottom of the third inning with the help of two Hillcats errors. The first error came with a runner on first and two outs. Shortstop Andrelton Simmons backhanded a ball in the hole but his throw went over the head of Joey Terdoslavich at first. The play was ruled a hit, but both runners advanced to second and third on the throwing error. Tyler Kolodny came up with two outs and runners and second and third. He worked a 3-1 count before being put on intentionally to load the bases for Tyler Townshend.

Then things really fell apart for the Hillcats. Townshend hit a groundball to the right side in between Terdoslavich and Gosselin. Terdoslavich to charge but Delgado was not covering first and all the runners advanced safely including Townshend with an RBI infield single. Then, as Terdoslavich held the ball, L.J. Hoes rounded third and headed for home. Terdoslavich threw the ball over Braeden Schlehuber's head at the plate allowing another run to come around making it 2-0 Keys in the third.

The Hillcats added their only run in the eighth when Milligan hit his fourth home run of the season bringing the ‘Cats within a run.

But the Keys were able to hold on to their 2-1 lead as right-hander Sean Gleason finished a four-out save retiring the Hillcats in order in the ninth for his second save of the season.

Bobby Bundy (1-2) earned the win as he struck out a career high nine batters through six shutout innings. Delgado (0-3) took the loss exiting after four innings, giving up two runs, one earned, on five hits, two walks, and two strikeouts.

Lynchburg wasn't able to complete the sweep but took the series three games to one for their first series win of the season.

The ‘Cats will head back to "Hill City" now to start a seven-game homestand starting Monday night at City Stadium. The Wilmington Blue Rocks will come to town first for a four game series, followed by a weekend series with the Kinston Indians.

Monday's game starts at 6:05 PM when RHP Arodys Vizcaino (1-1, 2.93) takes the hill for Lynchburg against RHP Timothy Melville (1-2, 5.02) for the Blue Rocks. It'll be a dollar Monday at the stadium, which means assorted concessions items will be on sale for just a dollar, including hot dogs, popcorn, chips, and candy. If you can't make it to the park, the Hillcats On-Deck Show will go on the air at 5:40 PM. Catch all the play-by-play on 105.5 KD Country or online at lynchburg-hillcats.com
