July 4, 2023 - Carolina League (CarL)
Lynchburg Hillcats News Release
In front of a season-high crowd, the Lynchburg Hillcats bats remained quiet as they dropped the series opener to the Same Red Sox 4-2 on Tuesday evening.
Over 4,000 people made the trek to Bank of the James Stadium on the Fourth of July as the Hillcats struggled to find any momentum after a strong start from Alonzo Richardson.
The game was moving quick until the top of the fifth inning when Salem finally cracked the scoreboard. Allan Castro would drive home Albert Feliz on a sacrifice fly. Later in the inning, Alexis Hernandez would reach on a throwing error by Angel Genao to plate Albertson Asigen.
Salem would add one more in the top of the sixth on a double from Albert Feliz which scored Enderso Lira.
Lynchburg would make a push in the bottom of the seventh after Guy Lipscomb sparked some hope with a leadoff single before moving into scoring position with no one out. Robert Lopez would drive him home to cut the deficit back down to two. However, Lopez got a little greedy as he attempted to stretch his single into a double where he was thrown out.
With the game at 3-1, the Hillcats would hold the Red Sox in the eighth inning to garner some momentum. Then in the ninth, Cutter Coffey would get aboard from a dropped third strike through the legs of Lopez. A few batters later, Jhostynxon Garcia would drive him home with a double over the glove of Genao.
Lynchburg would get the run back in the bottom of the ninth on a ground out from Lipscomb to score Turner. However, it was too little, too late for the Hillcats.
The Red Sox and Hillcats will meet again on Wednesday evening at 6:30 p.m. at Bank of the James Stadium.
