Game Highlights
Quarter 1: Highlanders 24, Hurricanes 30
The Highlanders hosted their second annual Youth Day, as schools from all over Cape Breton Island were bussed in to watch the early morning game against the Halifax Hurricanes. The Highlanders were joined by newcomer Deshaunt Walker and the previously announced Olu Famutimi. The Hurricanes jumped out to an early lead, but the crowd of students was loud for each Highlanders basket. However, the Hurricanes led by six at the end of the first quarter.
Quarter 2: Highlanders 49, Hurricanes 45
The Highlanders came out strong in the second to tie the game early. Baskets became hard to come by as both teams were aggressive on defence. An Olu Famutimi 3-pointer midway through the quarter gave the Highlanders their first lead of the game. The pace picked up before halftime as the Highlanders led by four at the horn.
Quarter 3: Highlanders 75, Hurricanes 75
Both teams played well to start the second half, as the first Battle of Nova Scotia this season was a close one. The Hurricanes played aggressively in an effort to get the lead back, and were able to briefly grab it late, but it was a tie game at the end of the third quarter.
Quarter 4: Highlanders 94, Hurricanes 90
It was an intense start to the quarter, as the Highlanders had difficulty getting baskets to drop. The Hurricanes had the lead but the Highlanders fought through and tied it again midway through the fourth. It was an exciting back-and-forth game. Deshaunt Walker, with less than two minutes left, grabbed the lead and the win for the Highlanders.
