Game Highlights
Quarter 1: Highlanders 22, Express 29
The game started with baskets being exchanged by both teams to make it close early. However, the Express were able to get behind the Highlanders defense to find points from underneath the basket, while the Highlanders struggled to find points from the field. The Express managed to extend their lead with outside shooting. The Highlanders fought back to bring the score closer but trailed by seven at the end of the first quarter.
Quarter 2: Highlanders 48, Express 48
The Express played with speed and effective positional basketball against the Highlanders. The Highlanders were able to draw fouls, as they have done all season, and score points from the free-throw line. The Highlanders defensive game improved and they tied the game midway through the quarter. It was a back-and-forth game for the remainder of the first half, resulting in a tie at the horn.
Quarter 3: Highlanders 68, Express 81
The Express scored the first point of the second half, but Bruce Massey answered with a 3-pointer to give the Highlanders their first lead of the game. The teams continued to swap points, but the Highlanders found themselves in foul trouble, allowing the Express to get easy points and regain the lead. The Highlanders shooting began to struggle again, while the Express kept their momentum and lead, up 13 heading into the final frame.
Quarter 4: Highlanders 103, Express 107
The Highlanders went to work to start the fourth quarter and began chipping away at the Express lead, cutting it in half with 9 minutes remaining in the game. The Highlanders found their shooting once again and scored difficult points from under the basket to tie the game with less than 5 minutes remaining. It was an exciting finish in a high-tension game. The Express were able to take the lead again but 3-pointers by Deshaunt Walker and Chris Johnson gave the Highlanders a one point lead with less than a minute to play. A loose ball almost in the hands of the Highlanders resulted in DeAndre Thomas of the Express scoring a basket while being fouled. Thomas hit the free throw, putting the Express up by two with 30 seconds remaining. The Highlanders were unable to score when needed and the Express took the win.
