Game Highlights
Quarter 1: Highlanders 15, Lightning 23
The Highlanders were back in action Friday night to take on the London Lighting. Newly-acquired Landon Atterberry suited up for his first game with Cape Breton. The game started with the Highlanders struggling to put up points against a strong Lightning defense. They were able to hold Cape Breton to just 29% shooting, and ended the quarter with an 8-point lead.
Quarter 2: Highlanders 44, Express 46
The second quarter began with solid defense from the Highlanders who held London to just 2 points in the first four and a half minutes. Cape Breton was able to assemble some good offensive possessions and shot the ball more efficiently at 47%. London managed to keep their lead throughout the quarter, but Cape Breton wasn't far behind, only trailing by 2 to head into halftime.
Quarter 3: Highlanders 80, Lightning 73
The Highlanders came out strong to start the second half and grabbed the lead early in the period. Throughout the quarter, London tried to regain their lead but Cape Breton stayed ahead. Landon Atterberry was making an impact in his first game with the squad on both ends of the floor with a big block, dunk, and a 3-pointer. The Highlanders were able to end the quarter with a 7-point lead.
Quarter 4: Highlanders 100, Lightning 102
The final quarter started the same way as the third quarter ended with Cape Breton maintaining the lead. Late in the game, London's Maurice Bolden came up big with two clutch 3-pointers to tie the game with 2 minutes remaining. With both teams trading baskets, Cape Breton tied the game at 15 seconds with a lob to Tanner Giddings, hitting the basket while being fouled. The missed free-throw was recovered by the Highlanders with 12 seconds left and the score tied. The Lightning managed to come up with a big defensive stop, moved the ball up the floor quickly, and missed a shot but won the game off a buzzer beater tip in. The Highlanders dropped their third in a row and will look to get back in the win column Monday night.
