Game Highlights
Quarter 1: Highlanders 20, Riptide 25
The Highlanders were without Jabari Craig and Chris Johnson, who both missed their second game in a row. The Highlanders were coming off a big win against the previously undefeated Moncton Magic on Friday night and were shooting well to start the game. The Riptide kept it close and it was a tie game midway through the first quarter. It turned into a defensive contest but the Riptide led by five at the end of the quarter.
Quarter 2: Highlanders 53, Riptide 51
The second quarter was fast-paced and filled with back-and-forth action. The score stayed within one possession or was tied for most of the quarter. The Riptide were successful finding points under the basket and the Highlanders had hot-hands shooting from the field. The Highlanders led by two at the intermission.
Quarter 3: Highlanders 73, Riptide 74
The Highlanders found themselves in foul trouble to start the second half but were able to keep the score close. The Riptide played aggressively on defence and took the lead again but the Highlanders did not allow them to maintain any momentum to extend the lead. The Highlanders fought back and trailed by one at the end of the quarter.
Quarter 4: Highlanders 105, Riptide 102
The final frame started with another lead change as the Highlanders maintained their momentum from the third quarter. The score stayed close as the Riptide continued to battle. Tensions were high in a close game. Bruce Massey made a 4-point play late in the game to move the Highlanders ahead, but the Riptide fought back to take a 1-point lead with one possession to play. The Highlanders recovered the ball and Massey was fouled with 16 seconds remaining, hitting both free throws the put the Highlanders up by 1. The Riptide attacked the basket for the win, but Massey came from the help side to block the shot. The Highlanders recovered the ball and the Riptide fouled George Williams who iced the game with 2 free throws. A last second shot by the Riptide fell short, giving the Highlanders their fourth win in a row and 2nd place position in the 10-team NBLC.
