With victories this week over the Moncton Magic and Saint John Riptide, Cape Breton can hang their Christmas stockings on third place in the NBL Canada standings. Bruce Massey is making his case for NBL Most Valuable Player, finishing the week with 25.0 ppg and 10.0 apg. Tanner Giddings was the top rebounder for the Sydney Crew with 9.5 boards per game.

The Halifax Hurricanes' season has been one of streaks; two wins this week were glittery ornaments for a great week. The Nova Scotia crew's newcomers, Joel Kindred (22.0 ppg) and Jordan Washington (21.5 ppg) are the Hurricanes' top scorers, while Rhamel Brown has an 8.0 rebounds per game average.
Island Storm

A short-staffed Island Storm squad lost two games this week, continuing their road woes over the river and through the woods. Sampson Carter's 26.5 ppg were tops for the Storm; Russell Byrd was not far behind with 22.5 points per game.
KW Titans

The Kitchener-Waterloo Titans are dashing through the snow, two victories in their bag, and eight different Titans scoring in double figures this week. Akeem Ellis and Joel Friesn finished with 21.5 and 21.0 ppg, respectively; Ashton Smith averaged 8.0 assists and 2.5 steals to go with his 13.0 ppg.
London Lightning

The Lightning ended up on the NBL's naughty list, losing two contests this week. While Garrett Williamson was the top scorer for London with 22.0 ppg, Jalen Kendrick picked up 20 points in his return to the lineup, on Friday night against Kitchener- Waterloo. Marcus Capers averaged 2.5 blocks per game this week.
Moncton Magic

After starting the 2018-19 season with ten straight victories, the Moncton Magic lost their first game of the year, a 114-84 drop to Kitchener-Waterloo on Friday night. Despite this Grinch-like moment, the Magic were led in scoring by Doug Herring Jr. with 20 points, and Isaiah Tate with 19.
Saint John Riptide

The Riptide fought back and forth in their only game of the week, but at the end, their stockings were filled with coal and rocks in a 105-102 loss to Cape Breton on Sunday afternoon. Frank Bartley finished the game with a double-double of 26 points and 10 rebounds. Brent Arrington scored 19, while Jeremiah Mordi, Brent Arrington and Daniel Dooley scored 14 points apiece.
St. John's Edge

With two big home victories over the Sudbury Five, the Edge rode up the standings like Santa Claus riding from rooftop to rooftop. While Desmond Lee averaged 24.0 ppg in the two victories, Obinna Oleka yanked down 13.5 rebounds per game this week.

The Five's travel schedule - two games in Newfoundland and Labrador, followed by two games back at Sudbury - could only earn the Five one win in four games. Braylon Rayson averaged 20.5 ppg in the four contests, while Grandy Glaze continued averaging a double-double of 17.8 ppg and 11.3 rpg.
Windsor Express

After losing earlier this week to Halifax, the Express made some wholesale lineup adjustments, to eventually pick up a win over the Island Storm. Veterans Juan Pattillo (21.0 ppg) and Ryan Anderson (16.5 ppg) were the top point-scorers for the Motor City crew.

NBL CANADA PLAYER OF THE WEEK
The National Basketball League of Canada is pleased to announce that Joel Kindred of the Halifax Hurricanes has been named Player of the Week for the week ending December 23, 2018.
Kindred, a 6'4" shooting guard who played collegiately at St. Augustine's College (North Carolina), helped he Hurricanes earn two victories this week; the rookie averaged 22.0 points per game in those wins.
"Joel is a really dynamic player who can score many different ways," said Halifax head coach Mike Leslie, "and I think that has been impressive about him, he's been one out of best players since day one of training camp, right up into this week's games. He works extremely hard at his game, and although he's a new player to the league, he's learning a lot - that's the key to success for a young player, they listen, he learns a lot of information from veteran players, he's a student of the game, and then he takes that information and he puts that into next day's work, whether it's a game or practice."

NBL CANADA CANADIAN PLAYER OF THE WEEK
The National Basketball League of Canada is pleased to announce that Aaron Redpath of the Cape Breton Highlanders has been named Canadian Player of the Week for the week ending December 23, 2018.
Redpath, a 6'4" shooting guard who played collegiately at McMaster, has improved his game in his second league season; he averaged 17.0 ppg in two Cape Breton Highlanders wins this week, including a 114-84 win over the previously unbeaten Moncton Magic.
"Aaron is a kid that we had great anticipation for," said Highlanders president Tyrone Levingston. "He had a pulled hamstring for the first few games of the season, but he was working extremely hard, and when he got his opportunity, he showed it on the court. He knows what type of team we have, and he's doing the best he can. We're looking forward to having him continue to have a great season."
