Cincinnati Cyclones News Release
Cincinnati, OH- The Cincinnati Cyclones (6-5-0-0) earned a 7-4 win over the Reading Royals on Wednesday night. Forward Andrew Yogan notched a pair of goals, while forwards Kenny Ryan, Nick Huard, Tommy Mele, and Shawn O'Donnell, along with defenseman Jaynen Rissling potted lone tallies for the Cyclones.
The Cyclones pounced on the Royals early, as just 3:37 into the first Ryan picked off a Reading pass in the defensive zone and wristed a shot past Reading netminder Martin Ouellette to give the Cyclones a 1-0 lead.
That lead became 2-0 a few minutes later while on the power play, when forward Peter LeBlanc sent a pass to Huard who skated in on net and snapped a shot from just above the goal line into the net for Cincinnati's fourth power play tally in their last 13 chances.
The Cyclones took their 2-0 lead into the locker room and in the second the offense continued to roll 2:13 into the middle frame when a pass through the slot deflected off of LeBlanc's stick right to Mele who stuffed it in to extend the Cyclones' lead to 3-0.
Cincinnati netted their fourth tally of the night roughly five minutes later when forward Jordan Sims threw a pass from the right half wall to Rissling in the slot, and he tapped it past Ouellette to put the Cyclones ahead, 4-0, and chase Ouellette from the game.
After Reading forward Chris McCarthy brought the score to 4-1 midway through the frame, Cincinnati regained their four-goal lead when Yogan took a pass from forward Dominic Zombo and trickled a shot past new Royals goaltender Mark Dekanich, lifting Cincinnati to a 5-1 lead.
Not long after, Reading started to chip away at Cincinnati's lead with a shorthanded marker from defenseman Mike Luukko and a power play tally from defenseman Florian Iberer to cut Cincinnati's lead to 5-3 after 40 minutes.
In the third Reading continued to turn up the pressure offensively as McCarthy got his second of the night midway through the period to pull the Royals to within a goal at 5-4.
Cincinnati answered back with a little over six minutes remaining when O'Donnell took a pass from LeBlanc and he sniped a shot five-hole and in on Dekanich to restore Cincinnati's two-goal lead, 6-4.
The Cyclones put it out of reach with 1:07 remaining and Dekanich pulled when Yogan fired a shot from the neutral zone into the empty net to seal it for Cincinnati, 7-4.
The Cyclones outshot Reading, 33-29 on the day, with Cincinnati netminder Mark Visentin stopping 25 in the win. Cincinnati hits the road on Friday for a meeting in Kalamazoo with the wings. Faceoff is scheduled for 7:00pm ET.
