Everett Silvertips News Release

On the first full day of Everett Silvertips Main Training Camp, the high level of skill was displayed at the Everett Events Center on Monday night. In the first of three intra-squad scrimmages, Team Gray defeated Team Green 5-3 in front of several hundred fans at the E.E.C.

For Team Gray, Kellan Tochkin, the Silvertips 1st round pick (13th Overall) in the 2006 WHL Bantam Draft led the team in points with a goal and an assist in the hockey game. Silvertips forward Zach Hamill added an assist in the win, while goaltender Matt Esposito made 8 saves on 8 shots in his period and a half. For Team Green, Peter Mueller, the Phoenix Coyotes 1st round pick (8th Overall) in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft posted 2 goals while forward Brennan Sonne added a goal in the loss.

One of the main goals in the scrimmages will be the players adapting to the new NHL standard of obstruction and interference. During the 2006-2007 WHL regular season, the WHL will have the exact same rules as the NHL. For Silvertips forward Zach Hamill, the new tighter standard of obstruction should be a benefit.

"I like it and it will help the league a lot," mentions Hamill. "I loved how the NHL was played last year and it opens the game up a bit but it will be a big change for all of the players but it will help the game."

The Silvertips will resume training camp on Tuesday with another scrimmage at 6:00 p.m. at the Everett Events Center. All fans are invited to attend free of charge.
