Atlanta Gladiators News Release
DULUTH, Ga. - Forwards Brock Higgs and Thomas Frazee have agreed to terms for the 2015-2016 season, the Gladiators announced on Wednesday.
Higgs, 23, had six goals and twelve assists in 41 ECHL games last year, his first full professional season. He began his rookie campaign with the Reading Royals, and spent time with the South Carolina Stingrays and the Fort Wayne Komets, before finding a home with the Gladiators in mid-March via a Trade Deadline deal. In just 11 games with Gwinnett, Higgs would notch eight points off of one goal and seven assists.
"Last season Brock came in and made a big impression on our coaching staff," said Gladiators Head Coach Andy Brandt. "He possesses the ability to produce offensively because he is willing to go to the hard areas, but he is also expected to be a leader for us in the coming year."
The Kingston, Ontario native's first taste of professional hockey came late in the 2013-14 season when he signed an ATO contract with the Worcester Sharks of the AHL. Higgs registered three goals and three assists in 16 games for the Sharks. Prior to turning pro, Higgs played for four years at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute from 2010 to 2014. He was named captain of the Engineers for his final year at R.P.I.
The Gladiators acquired the rights to Thomas Frazee in June from the Greenville Road Warriors, completing an earlier trade that saw forward Scott Arnold come to Gwinnett in exchange for forward Anthony Luciani. The 6-foot-3 210-pound forward scored 40 points in 67 ECHL games played in 14-15, and spent time in the American Hockey League with the Charlotte Checkers.
"Thomas is a big, strong, center that has speed to his game," said Brandt. "He caught our attention at the end of last season, with Greenville, because of his skill on the faceoff and his physical play."
The Gladiators are set to drop the puck on their 13th season at The Arena at Gwinnett Center in October 2015. For ticket information, visit the official team website at www.gwinnettgladiators.com or call the main office line at 770-497-5100.
