Hickory Crawdads News Release
Entering their four-game series, the Hickory Crawdads boasted superb starting pitching and hot bats while the Lexington Legends struggled both on the hill and offensively. Three games later, the roles have drastically reversed.
Lexington scored 8 runs on 15 hits -- both season highs for a Hickory opponent -- to beat the Crawdads for the third straight night, 8-3, at L.P. Frans Stadium on Thursday.
As it has all series, Hickory (8-7) struggled to overcome an early deficit.
Lexington (5-10) started with three runs in the top of the first inning, highlighted by Steve Brown's two-run home run.
Hickory would score Jose De Los Santos in the bottom of the first on a Miles Durham sacrifice fly, but would trail 4-1 going into the bottom of the fourth inning.
Andrew Walker then hit his first home run of the year in just his second game with the Crawdads to get Hickory within two, but that was the closest they'd get to Lexington.
The Legends used three straight hits to start the fifth inning with two runs, and would ice the cake with Collin DeLome's two-run homer in the seventh.
Hickory would later plate Walker in the ninth inning on a Ronald Pena sac fly to bring the final tally.
Colt Adams (1-1) allowed one earned run in six innings for Lexington in the win, while Jacob Leonhardt pitched three innings in relief to earn the save.
Hickory's Dustin Molleken (1-1) surrendered four runs in four innings to get hung with the loss.
The three-game losing streak is the longest for the Crawdads this season. They have combined for 8 runs and 26 hits in the series, while the Legends have scored 19 times on 34 hits.
The teams meet Friday night to finish the series, with the Crawdads aiming to avoid the sweep.
RHP Rafael Delossantos (1-0, 0.85 ERA) takes on LHP Anthony Bello (0-0, 4.32 ERA) in the last meeting between the teams until August 19.
First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m. with postgame fireworks planned. Tickets are still available by calling (828) 322-3000 or purchasing them right here on HickoryCrawdads.com.
