Delmarva Shorebirds News Release

The Shorebirds took advantage of two huge Hagerstown errors in the late-innings, scoring two in the eighth and one in the ninth to come back and defeat the Suns 6-4 on Thursday night. Tyler Henson singled to lead off the eighth and scored on a throwing error to tie the game. Wally Crancer's sacrifice bunt was launched into right field, Henson scored from first, and Crancer advanced all the way to third. With two outs, Pedro Florimon singled to right to give Delmarva the lead. The Shorebirds jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the third inning thanks to Joe Nowicki's 2-RBI double and Henson's two-out single, but Hagerstown would battle back with one in the fourth and three in the fifth to take the lead and knock Delmarva starter Luis Noel out of the game after four and one-third innings. The Suns led 4-3 after five, but would not score again against the stout Shorebirds bullpen.

Brian Parker allowed just one hit in three and two-thirds shutout innings, picking up his fourth win of the season in relief. He becomes the first hurler in the South Atlantic League to record four wins. Mick Mattaliano also pitched a perfect ninth inning for his fourth save of the season.

With the victory, the Shorebirds swept the two-game mini-series in Hagerstown and won their fifth ballgame in the last seven. They now trek to Lakewood, NJ for a three-game weekend series against the Blue Claws beginning on Friday night at FirstEnergy Park.
