Hernandez Pitches Osprey Past Brewers, 5-2

HELENA, MONT - The Missoula Osprey used a solid pitching performance from right-hander Raymond Hernandez, who allowed just four hits and a run over seven innings of work in a 5-2 win over the Helena Brewers on Thursday here at Kindrick Legion Field in front of 833 fans.

Hernandez fanned nine batters and did not allow a walk in picking up his seventh win of the season without a loss. The right-hander also lowered his ERA to 2.55 in the contest, solidifying his spot in the Pioneer League Top 10 in ERA.

The Osprey (7-5, 32-18) took a 2-0 lead with single tallies in the second and third innings. Bryan Henry brought home the first run with a RBI groundout in the second, and Jon Griffin launched a solo home run to deep left field in the top of the third to push the edge to 2-0 Missoula.

After Max Walla hit a solo home run in the bottom of the fourth off of Hernandez to pull the Brewers (3-9, 21-29) within 2-1, both pitching staffs settled in for a battle. Hernandez matched zeroes with Helena starter Kevin Shackelford (1-3) and the Brewers bullpen through the seventh inning.

Ryan Court would help Missoula add some insurance with a RBI single in the eighth, and the Osprey added a pair of ninth-inning runs to put the game away. The Brewers would score a ninth-inning run on a Walla RBI double, but Matt Sample would finish off the inning and close out the win.

The Osprey had 11 hits on the night - Court and Tom Belza would each finish with two hits and a RBI to pace the offense, while every Osprey starter had at least one base hit.

The Osprey will begin their longest homestand of the season - hosting nine games in 10 days - with a two-game series with the Brewers. The Osprey will send right-hander Robby Rowland to the mound, and will be opposed by Brewers right-hander Chad Pierce.
