A grand slam by Michel Hernandez helped Norfolk cruise to an 8-3 victory over the Louisville Bats Sunday afternoon at Harbor Park.

With the Tides leading 2-1 in the fifth inning, Jeff Salazar and Josh Bell connected on back-to-back one-out doubles off of Chad Reineke (4-6) to extend the lead to 3-1. After a fielder's choice and a pair of walks, Hernandez launched a long drive over the left field wall for his second homer of the season and Norfolk's first grand slam of the year to extend the advantage to 7-1.

Hernandez finished with three hits in the contest, and he's now hit .404 (19-for-47) with two homers and 10 RBI over his last 14 games.

Salazar also had a big day at the plate for the Tides, as he continued his hot stretch by finishing a triple short of the cycle to up his average to .288. His solo homer in the sixth inning was his 13th of the season, surpassing Norfolk's team-high from a year ago, when Jeff Fiorentino led the club with 12 homers.

Tides starter Tim Bascom (2-2) picked up the victory, as he scattered 11 hits over six innings of work. Bascom, who walked one and struck out three, stranded eight Bats on base to help the Tides earn their fifth win in six games.

Gary Matthews, Jr. led the Bats 12-hit attack with two singles and a double, while Danny Dorn and Michael Griffin each singled twice. Todd Frazier also belted a solo homer in the loss, his 11th of the season.

The Tides and Bats will conclude their series Monday night at Harbor Park, with first pitch scheduled for 7:15. Chris George (3-2, 4.19) will take the mound for Norfolk against Louisville right-hander Jesus Delgado (0-1, 3.28).
