SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - The Sioux Falls Stampede dropped their fifth straight game in a 5-4 shootout loss to the Des Moines Buccaneers at the PREMIER Center Saturday night. Tyler Haskins scored twice in the contest, while Noah Grannan made the start and stopped 36 of 40 shots on net.
The Buccaneers opened the scoring for the second straight night with a goal from Paul Davey at 1:33 of the first period. Tyler Haskins responded with a goal two minutes later on a rebounded shot off the chest of goaltender Remington Keopple. Dan Russell and Will Schimek assisted on the goal.
Defenseman Nate Schweitzer gave the Herd the lead 9:55 into the second period. Haskins found Schweitzer in the slot off a faceoff and tallied his fourth goal of the season. Alex Laferriere scored on a breakaway three minutes. He beat goaltender Noah Grannan for his eighteenth of the season.
The third period continued the back-and-forth battle as Dan Russell scored at 5:44 of the period for the 3-2 lead. However, Scout Truman responded for the Buccaneers at 6:57 to tie the game back up. Laferriere gave Des Moines the lead with seven minutes left in regulation on the power play, but Haskins responded to tie the game at four on a nice backdoor feed from Sean Donaldson.
Paul Davey, Tanner Latsch and Zach Urdahl all scored in the shootout following the scoreless overtime session. Cole Sillinger and Russell scored for the Stampede.
The Herd will host the Lincoln Stars on Tuesday, March 16 for a St. Patrick's Eve game. Fans are encouraged to wear green with a 7:05 p.m. puck drop. Tickets available at the KELOLAND Box Office or any Ticketmaster outlet. Fans can catch the game streaming live at HockeyTV.com or listen live on KELO Radio 107.9 FM, 1320 AM or Kelo.com.
