Herd Continue Playoff Push

The Sioux Falls Stampede went 1-1-1 in three games over the weekend. The Stampede are now 28-19-5 and one-point behind Des Moines for fifth place in the West Division. The Herd trail Tri-City by five points for third place and home-ice advantage for the first round of the USHL playoffs. The Stampede will travel to Lincoln and Sioux City this Friday and Saturday before returning home Sunday to host the Green Bay Gamblers at 4:05 PM.

On Friday, the Omaha Lancers rallied from a 2-0 deficit and topped the Stampede 3-2 in overtime. Corey Tropp and Zach Redmond tallied goals for the Stampede while Matt Lundin stopped 28 of 31 shots in goal.

On Saturday, David Grun recorded two goals to help lead the Stampede to a 5-3 win over Des Moines. Drew Fisher posted four points (1g, 3a) while Max Strang stopped 30 of 33 shots in goal to earn his ninth win of the season.

Sunday afternoon, the Stampede fell 8-4 to Tri-City. Fisher knotted three points (2g, 1a) while Tropp added three assists.

THE PLAYOFFS ARE COMING!

With just three weeks left in the regular season, the 2007 Clark Cup Playoffs are just around the corner.

A reminder to season ticket holders that the deadline to renew your seats for the playoffs is this Friday, March 30th. Payment in full with the playoff renewal form can be faxed (336-9226) or mailed to the Stampede Business office in Shriver's Square: 230 South Phillips Ave, Suite 104, Sioux Falls, SD 57104 by 5 PM Friday. The first round is a divisional best-of-seven series and will run April 17-29. The three divisional winners will then advance to a divisional round-robin format in which each team will play one home game and one road game. The top two teams from the round-robin will advance to the USHL "Final Four" which will take place at the home of top remaining seed (based on regular season standings).

The Stampede will play five of their last eight regular season games at the Sioux Falls Arena.

After going eight games without a point, David Solway tallied three points (2g, 1a) in his last two games.

NCAA FROZEN FOUR SET-

The 2007 Men's Division I hockey regional championships took place over the weekend and Michigan State, North Dakota, Maine and Boston College all advanced. Two of the four teams will have former Stampede players on their roster. Jim McKenzie will be making his first ever appearance in the Frozen Four while T. J. Oshie and Joe Finley are making their second consecutive trip to the Frozen Four.

VANEK CONTINUES HOT PLAY-

Former Stampede star Thomas Vanek continued his strong play over the weekend, recording two goals and an assist in Buffalo's 5-4 come-from-behind victory over the Toronto Maple Leafs Friday night. Vanek now has 74 points (37g, 37a) and is an NHL best +41 in 75 games this season. Vanek and the Sabres are currently the top team in the Eastern Conference and tied for the best record in the NHL with Nashville at 48-20-7 with seven games left in the regular season.

Here's a quick look at how some other Stampede alumni are doing:

J.B. Bittner has 33 points (12g, 21a) in 42 games for the August Lynx (ECHL).

After a brief stint with Reading (ECHL), Eric Werner is back in Manchester (AHL), the top affiliate of the L.A. Kings where he has 28 points (5g, 23a) in 56 games.

Jeff Corey has 20 points (9g, 11a) for the Toronto Marlies (AHL).

Alex Foster has 10 points (6g, 4a) in 46 games for the Marlies as well.

After spending some time in Wheeling (ECHL), Joe Jensen has been steady in Wilkes-Barre/Scranton (AHL) where he has 9 points (6g, 3a) in 25 games for the baby Pens who have already clinched a playoff berth.

Tyler Scott has 30 points (12g, 18a) in 50 games for the Bakersfield Condors (ECHL).

Eric Przepiorka has 15 points (7g, 8a) in 40 games with the Johnstown Chiefs (ECHL).
