
Herd Announces 2020-21 Season Opening Roster

Sioux Falls, S.D. - The Sioux Falls Stampede announced the 2020-21 opening season roster on Tuesday. The roster includes the return of forwards Will Dineen, Garrett Pinoniemi, Luke Weilandt and defensemen Josh Phillips and Brandon Chabrier and the addition of Montreal Canadiens draft pick Jack Smith and defenseman Garrett Sundquist.

Forward Garrett Pinoniemi, a University of Minnesota commit, returns as the team's leading scorer from the 2019-20 shortened season, tallying 20 points from seven goals and 13 assists over 44 games. Forward Luke Weilandt follows with 14 points off two goals and 12 assists over 40 games.
Jack Smith joins the team off a successful career at St. Cloud Cathedral and a fourth-round draft selection by the Montreal Canadiens in the 2020 NHL Entry Draft. Smith tallied 26 goals and 23 assists for 49 points in 17 games including playoffs last season.
On the defensive side, Josh Phillips returns with one goal and 10 assists over 43 games. Sioux Falls added stay-at-home defenseman Garrett Sundquist in the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders dispersal draft. Sundquist recorded one goal and five assists with a defensemen high plus-16 rating.
The Herd brings in two junior hockey veteran goaltenders in Noah Grannan and Trent Burnham. Grannan, selected in the 2020 Phase II draft in the third round, played previously with the National Development Team Program (NTDP) the past two seasons, recording a 3.92 GAA and .863 save-percentage.
Burnham, a 2000-born goaltender from Eagle River, Alaska, played the past two seasons with the Chippewa Steel in the North American Hockey League (NAHL). He recorded a 2.56 GAA and .921 save-percentage in 37 games.
The roster features 25 American-born and two Canadian-born players with 16 committed to collegiate Division I programs.
The Stampede begin regular season play on Thursday, November 5 against the Des Moines Buccaneers at 6:35 p.m. at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines. The team will travel to face off with the Fargo Force on Friday, November 13 before returning home on Nov. 14 for the home opener at 7:05 p.m. at the PREMIER Center. The first 1,000 fans 12-and-under will receive a free replica jersey, compliments of First PREMIER Bank and PREMIER Bankcard.
