Hershey Bears News Release
HERSHEY, Pa. - The Hershey Bears announced today that forwards Caleb Herbert and Nathan Walker have been reassigned to the ECHL's South Carolina Stingrays. The announcement was made by Bears president/general manager Doug Yingst.
Herbert, 23, has played in 12 games with the Bears this season, recording two assists, four penalty minutes and a plus-three rating. He has played six games with the Stingrays, posting five points (four goals, one assist), four penalty minutes and a plus-two rating. Herbert recorded his first professional hat trick on his first assignment to South Carolina on November 1 vs. Greenville, earning first-star honors in the process.
The 6-0, 197-pound native of Bloomington, Minnesota made his AHL debut on April 2 against the Portland Pirates at Lewiston, Maine, and recorded his first two professional points (one goal, one assist). His debut came two weeks after being signed by the Washington Capitals to a two-year entry-level contract.
Herbert has a total of five points (two goals, three assists) in 19 games with Hershey.
Prior to turning pro, Herbert played three years of college hockey at the University of Minnesota-Duluth (NCHC), where he piled up 89 points (32 goals, 57 assists) in 112 career games. He earned NCHC Academic All-Conference Team honors in his final season of 2013-14, ranked eighth among NCAA freshmen in points (33) during 2011-12 and received the Jerry Chumola Award as Minnesota-Duluth Rookie of the Year.
Herbert was originally selected by Washington in the fifth round (142nd overall) of the 2010 NHL Entry Draft.
Walker, 20, has recorded four points (one goal, three assists), 21 penalty minutes and a plus-two rating in 23 games with the Bears this season. Adding his total onto his AHL rookie year of 2013-14, Walker has produced 15 points (six goals, nine assists) in 66 games playing in Chocolatetown.
Born in Cardiff, Wales and growing up in Sydney, Australia for most of his life, the 5-8, 186-pound Walker became the first-ever native of Australia selected in the NHL Entry Draft when the Capitals chose him in the third round (89th overall) this past summer. His AHL debut on October 5, 2013 marked the first time an Australian played in the American Hockey League.
Walker also played with the USHL's Youngstown Phantoms in 2012-13, notching 27 points (seven goals, 20 assists). He also tallied 10 points (four goals, six assists) over parts of two seasons with Vitkovice HC (Czech).
