Herauf named Player of the Week

[ RIO RANCHO, N.M.]- The New Mexico Scorpions, proud member of the Central Hockey League (CHL), are happy to announce forward Lance Herauf has been named the Oakley Player of the Week. Herauf finished his three game week with eights points (2G, 6A).

In the games, Herauf shined helping the Scorpions win on Thursday night against Laredo with two assists against Lubbock . On Friday, the rookie had a career game posting six points with two goals, first in his professional career, and four assists in Colorado . Both are CHL single game highs this season.

"It is exciting to have a first year player named the Player of the Week," said Head Coach Ray Edwards. "When we put this team together we felt we would have a bunch of exciting young players and it is great to see an award like this early in the season."

The Bulgonie, Sask. native is tied for the league lead with 10 assists. Among CHL rookies, Herauf leads in assists and is second in points with 12. "The challenge for Lance now will be to see if he can continue the pace," said Edwards. "This also will make everyone else excited and hopefully push them to excel their own games."

The Scorpions will spend this away from home in the coming days. The South Texas swing is upon New Mexico . The Scorpions will face Laredo Wednesday, Rio Grande Valley Friday and Corpus Christi Saturday.
