Henschel Retires After Six Seasons

San Angelo, Texas --- The winingest pitcher in San Angelo Colts' franchise history is calling it quits.

The Colts' announced Tuesday that righthander Brian Henschel is retiring to pursue other opportunities in his home state of Wisconsin. Henschel, 36, began his professional career with the Colts in 2007. In six years, he compiled a 49-38 record with a 4.49 earned-run average in a franchise-high 112 games and 107 starts.

Henschel is also the franchise leaders in strikeouts (406), innings pitched (754), and complete games (28). Last season, he went 7-9 with a 4.53 earned-run average in 21 games and 20 starts.

Henschel had his best year in 2009. He recorded a season-best 11 wins, and a career-low 2.29 earned-run average in 16 starts. Henschel also threw a career-best six complete games, and three shutouts.

Henschel began his career with the Colts in 2007. As a rookie, he posted an 8-7 record with a 4.62 earned-run average, and a career-high 88 strikeouts in 20 games and 19 starts. He then had back-to-back, double-digit win seasons for the Colts.

Henschel played collegiately at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. Although he was not drafted, Henschel became a professional pitcher at the age of 30.

The Colts' 2013 season begins on Thursday, May 23, when they take on the Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings in Harlingen. San Angelo's home opener at Foster Field is scheduled for Tuesday, May 28, at 7:05 p.m., when the Colts will host the Edinburg Roadrunners.
