Harrisburg Heat News Release

THIS WEEK FOR THE HEAT:

Sat, Oct. 26, 1st Mariner Arena, Baltimore Blast, 7:35 p.m.

Following a rare weekend off, the Harrisburg Heat returns to action this Saturday, October 26, facing the archrival Baltimore Blast at 1st Mariner Arena (7:35 p.m. kickoff).

The game will not only mark the end of the Heat's season-opening four-game road swing, it will also be the first time Harrisburg faces its former star forward, Gino DiFlorio, since he joined the Blast this past offseason. DiFlorio scored 179 goals and assisted on 175 others for 522 points in 122 games with the Heat from 1998-2002.

Harrisburg is 31-35 all-time against the Blast, including a 10-23 all-time record at 1st Mariner Arena (formerly Baltimore Arena). The Heat went 3-7 versus Baltimore in 2001-02. David Bascome led the Heat in scoring against the Blast in '01-02 with 22 points in 7 games. Doug Petras played the majority of minutes in goal against Baltimore last season, going 3-5 with a 13.50 points against average.

FRIEND OR FOE?:

Familiarity is just one of the many reasons the Harrisburg-Baltimore rivalry stands as the most intense in the Major Indoor Soccer League.

Gino DiFlorio isn't the only Blast player to have worn Purple and Black in his career. Baltimore defender Dewan Bader, midfielder Danny Kelly, and forwards Lee Tschantret and Tarik Walker have all spent time in Harrisburg during their careers.

And Heat midfielder Mike Henning, who was acquired in the deal that sent Kelly to the Charm City, began his career in Baltimore in 1996.

BASCOME MOVES INTO TOP SPOT:

When he took the field in San Diego on October 11, forward David Bascome officially became the Harrisburg Heat's all-time leader in games played.

The 32-year old Bermudian passed former teammate Bill Becher (314) to snag the top spot. Bascome, the club's all-time leading scorer with 834 points, has now played 317 games for the Heat. Only Bascome, Becher, and Mark Pulisic (303) have played 300 or more games for the Purple and Black. He stands as the only remaining member of the Heat's inaugural 1991-92 roster (though he spent the '92-93 season with the Denver Thunder).

The veteran is on the brink of another significant milestone: with 20 more blocks, Bascome will pass Heat Hall of Famer Richard Chinapoo to become the club's all-time leader in that category.

HEATERS ON THE MISL LEADERBOARD:

#40 David Bascome, F - Tied for 7th in the MISL with 12 points. 2nd in the MISL lead with 6 total goals. Tied for the MISL lead with 6 2pgs. 2nd in the MISL with 3 power play goals.

#18 Marco Coria, MF - Tied for 9th in the MISL with 11 points. Tied for 1st in the MISL with 5 assists.
