Harrisburg Heat News Release
NORTH OLMSTED, Ohio, Dec. 22, 2013 - Allen Eller, Josh Grossman and Stefan Ostergren each scored twice as the Cleveland Freeze beat the Harrisburg Heat 12-4 Sunday afternoon in a Professional Arena Soccer League match in northern Ohio.
The decision snapped the Heat's three-game winning streak, which included a non-league, Open Cup match.
As for the Freeze (6-3), the victory was their third in as many games this season against the Heat (3-4 in league play).
Eller scored both of his goals in the first eight minutes of the opening quarter as Cleveland raced to a 3-0 lead. The goals gave Eller 20 for the season, seven of which have come in three games against the Heat.
The Heat twice rallied to cut their deficit to one at 3-2 and 4-3 on first-quarter goals by Lester Felician and Danny Thompson, and then another by Brad Kerstetter at 4:54 of the second quarter. Tyler Witmer accounted for the Heat's final goal, a power-play score, at 9:22 of the fourth quarter. By then, though, the Freeze had built a 10-3 lead.
The Heat played without the hobbling duo of midfielder David Schofield and forward Tom Mellor, who had scored a franchise-record five goals in Saturday's 9-8 victory over Detroit at the Equine Arena. Also missing the game was defender Craig Tyrrell, who remains home in the West Indies but is expected to rejoin the Heat in January.
The Heat next play Friday against the New Jersey Dynamo in a non-league game at the Equine Arena, where they also return Saturday for another game against the Freeze in a PASL match that will double as an Open Cup quarterfinal game.
GAME NOTES: With Schofield out, Felician served as the Heat's captain. Schofield previously played in all 22 of the Heat's regular-season games since the team returned last season. Now only Witmer has played in every Heat game. ... Midfielder Danny DePrima played the second of his two-game developmental/ tryout contract. DiPrima's first game came Thursday against ReAL Harrisburg FC in the Heat's 9-3 Open Cup victory at Sports City.
