Harrisburg Heat News Release
Harrisburg, PA - Late goals from David Bascome and Matt Tanzini pulled the Harrisburg Heat within a mere point, but the visiting Philadelphia KiXX held on despite the late flurry to record a 17-16 win at the Farm Show Arena on Saturday night. With its second loss in as many days, the Heat falls to 10-16 heading into a month-long road trip; Philadelphia improves to a League-best 19-5.
Down 17-10 heading into the final stanza, the Heat made it 17-12 with a 2pg from Ato Leone at 4:48 of the fourth. Harrisburg went to the sixth attacker early, inserting Chris Morman with roughly eight minutes to play, and the move first paid dividends at 13:23 when Bascome converted a penalty kick opportunity to make it 17-14. Just 16 seconds later, Tanzini bumped home a loose ball for a 2pg and a 17-16 score. The Heat generated a handful of quality chances as the clock wound down but was stymied by the KiXX defense and goalkeeper Peter Pappas (15 saves); Pappas sealed the win when he leapt to deflect a Hail Mary long ball from Morman as the buzzer sounded.
Philadelphia led 3-2 after one but began to assume control of the contest with a nine-point second quarter, and held a 12-6 advantage at halftime. Kevin Sloan and Shawn Boney both scored a 3pg and a 2pg for five points; Don D'Ambra added another 3pg for the KiXX. Les Lunsford's 2pg at 11:37 of the third stood as the game-winner.
Leone (two 2pgs, assist, five points) and Marco Coria (2pg, three assists, five points) posted standout nights for Harrisburg, which also received two goals apiece from Bascome and Tanzini. Chris Damico (seven saves) started in goal and was replaced at halftime by Raul Salas, who made eight saves and took the loss.
NOTES: David Bascome will go into next Thursday's game in San Diego just four points shy of 900 for his career...The Heat will play its next six games on the road, beginning next Thursday. The Heat kicks off at San Diego Sports Arena against the Sockers at 10:05 p.m.
