Harrisburg, PA - The Harrisburg Heat has signed veteran defender Neil Gilbert to an offer sheet, the club announced today. As per club policy, terms of the deal were not announced. The Heat acquired Gilbert's rights from the Milwaukee Wave in exchange for a first-round pick in next year's MISL Amateur Draft.
Gilbert, 33, last played with the Detroit Rockers during the 2000-01 season, during which he scored 8 points and blocked 41 shots in 30 games. He began his career in 1994-95 with the Canton Invaders and has also spent time with the Chicago Power and Philadelphia KiXX during his seven years in the League.
For his career, the native of Buenos Aires, Argentina, has scored 158 points and blocked 245 shots in 224 games. A noted physical presence, Gilbert has also racked up 194 career minutes in penalties, including a career-high 50 minutes in 1997-98 with Detroit.
Gilbert will wear jersey #5 and will be available to play this Saturday night when the Heat heads to Philadelphia to face the KiXX (7:05 p.m. start time). With the signing of Gilbert, Harrisburg's roster now numbers 19 players.
