Cleveland Force News Release

CLEVELAND, OHIO- The Honorable Jane Campbell, Mayor of Cleveland, will serve as the keynote speaker and deliver a pre-game address to participants in the Force's Girl Scout Game on Saturday, January 18th. The event begins at 3:30 pm in the West Wing of the Convocation Center at Cleveland State University (CSU) and will be attended by Girl Scouts representing the five area Councils from throughout Northeast Ohio. The scouts, as well as their leaders and administrators, will have the opportunity to meet the Mayor and ask questions of her at the conclusion of her address. Participants will then have the opportunity to take the field with some of the Cleveland Force players for a private soccer clinic session.

The goal of the Cleveland Force Girl Scout Day is to begin a tradition that highlights women and soccer along with all of the outstanding qualities the sport cultivates. There exists a special connection between young women and soccer. The sport itself crosses all race, gender, stature and economic lines. Yet, of equal importance, is the fact that soccer stresses the significance of teamwork and camaraderie. Inherent with soccer are rich attributes such as dedication, mental power, commitment and diligence. All of these elements are required to excel at the game of soccer and later become valued qualities to achieving success in life. Therefore, a highlight of the Girl Scouts Day will be Mayor Campbell, a former Girl Scout herself, who serves as a role model who demonstrates all of these outstanding attributes.

Following the presentation ceremony and private instructional session, the girls will line the field during the Force player introductions and the National Anthem, before returning to their seats to enjoy all the exciting indoor soccer action as the Cleveland Force play host to the Milwaukee Wave in a Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) game at 7:05 p.m.
