Stockton Heat News Release

Stockton, Calif. - Stockton Heat forward Mitchell Heard scores his first goal in a Stockton Heat sweater in the third period of a comeback effort, but ultimately the deficit was too large and the Heat fall to the San Jose Barracuda by a final score of 4-1 Wednesday night at Stockton Arena. For Heard, it is his first AHL goal since last season when he was a member of the Lake Erie Monsters. Unfortunately for the Heat, Aaron Dell played tough between the pipes and stopped 30 of the 31 shots he faced to get Stockton's homestand off to a less than ideal start. The Stockton Heat will have one day to move on from this one before they face the Texas Stars in a Friday-Saturday double-header for what will be the final times the two teams meet this season.

QUOTES

"[San Jose] is a talented offensive team and we took too many penalties in the second period that they capitalized on. I thought we deserved a better fate than coming out of that first period tied 0-0 and that first goal they scored kind of put us back on our heels. We had a decent push back in the third, but not enough." - Blair Riley with his overall thoughts of tonight's contest.

"We've shown in the second half [of the season] that we're a very good home team. These two games this weekend are must win games for us. We've got to regroup and have a good practice Thursday so we're ready for these two this weekend." - Riley on putting this loss in the rearview and focusing on Texas this weekend.

"I felt pretty good. It's a different pace with different teammates and a different system, but I felt good out there. I would have felt better if we got the win." - Yann Sauve on playing his first game in a Stockton Heat sweater.

"We had some good pressure on the forecheck and their defense kind of through it blindly up the wall. It kind of scrambled in my stomach and I just got it to the ice and tried to make a simple play. Fortunately it went in." - Mitchell Heard on his goal in the third.

"I thought our line [Heard, Hunter Smith and Blair Riley] was playing really going well tonight. We were keeping it simple and playing the body well tonight. I think it's a good game for us to build some momentum going into the next game." - Heard on the play of his line in general.

"I thought we had a lot of jump in the first period, but we took a couple penalties early in the second and [San Jose] capitalized on one and then they scored off one of our guys' feet and I thought we deflated from that point. One line I thought was consistently good for us tonight was Heard, Riley and Smith. It was really nice to see them push the way they did. We just weren't able to get that momentum back once they scored that second goal." - Head Coach Ryan Huska on his overall view of tonight's game.

"You lick your wounds here for a short time and then you have to get yourself prepared for a good team coming in. Our biggest challenge is to be able to push through things when something goes against us. We need somebody to step up or a part of our leadership group to step up and push us through those tough moments. We need to make sure that everyone pushes the way that Blair Riley, Hunter Smith and Mitchell Heard did tonight." - Coach Huska on putting this game behind them and focusing on a tough Texas team coming to town this weekend.
