Washington Spirit News Release
Washington, D.C. - Head coach Mark Parsons will not return to the Washington Spirit next season. Parsons rejoined the club for the 2023 season lending his technical expertise and long-term National Women's Soccer League experience to the club's vision of building a world-class organization.
"We are grateful for Mark's contributions in the 2023 season," said President of Soccer Operations Mark Krikorian. "He helped lay a strong foundation and set us on a path to excellence. We wish him all the best in the future."
Parsons led the club to a 7-9-6 record during their first full season playing at Audi Field. Previously the Spirit split hosting home matches between Audi Field in the Nation's Capital and Segra Field in Loudon County, VA.
"It has been a privilege to be back in Washington DC and the NWSL this past year. I am proud of the work the players and the staff have put in this season, and I know the Spirit is well-positioned for success moving forward given the foundation has been built," said Mark Parsons. "While I am disappointed to not be returning to the Spirit in 2024, I wish Michele and everyone at the club my gratitude and best wishes."
Parsons previously coached the Spirit from 2013-2015 when he led the club through its first three seasons in the NWSL. Most recently, he spent a year as Head Coach of the Dutch Women's National Team after serving as Head Coach for Portland Thorns FC from 2016 to 2021. His additional coaching experience includes roles with the Washington Spirit Reserves (2013), D.C. United Women U-20 (2012) and Chelsea Women (2004-2010).
