Omaha Storm Chasers News Release

Nashville, TN - Brett Hayes belted two home runs and drove in four runs to power Omaha to a 10-7 decision over Nashville Monday night in the first of four meetings at Greer Stadium. The Storm Chasers won their second straight game to improve to 28-33 and move to within 2.5 games of first place Memphis after the Redbirds were swept in a doubleheader at home by New Orleans.

Nashville jumped on Danny Duffy, making his first Triple-A rehab start in his return from Tommy John surgery on June 13, 2012, for three runs in the first inning before the Storm Chasers got solo home runs from Anthony Seratelli and Hayes in the second to trim the margin to one.

The visitors then struck for six runs in the third, capped off by a three-run homer from Hayes, giving him three two-homer games against the Sounds this season, to forge a seemingly comfortable 8-3 advantage. Nashville starter R.J. Seidel took the loss after he was tagged for those eight runs on six hits and four walks, while striking out three, over 2 2/3 innings.

Duffy, taking the mound for Omaha for the first time since July 14, 2011, ran into more trouble in the home half and couldn't get through the frame. Josh Prince, Sean Halton and Anderson De La Rosa delivered consecutive run-scoring hits to shave the lead to 8-6 before a walk to Blake Davis loaded the bases and ended the Kansas City southpaw's night. An RBI ground out by Ozzie Chavez brought the hosts within one before Donnie Joseph got the final out of the inning, as the teams combined to send 21 batters to the plate.

Omaha added a pair of runs in the sixth on a bases loaded walk to Xavier Nady and a second sacrifice fly from Max Ramirez to finish the scoring. The Chasers received a huge night from Jarrod Dyson, playing in his fourth rehab game as he comes back from a high right ankle sprain. The speedy outfielder singled twice, walked twice and doubled and was not retired in his five trips to the plate. He also scored two runs and stole four bases, as the Chasers ran all over the catcher De La Rosa and the Sounds pitchers to the tune of seven steals. Nady walked twice and drove in two runs while Christian Colon drew a pair of free passes and crossed the plate two times as the Storm Chasers reached double digits in runs for the first time since May 20.

Joseph wound up tossing 2 2/3 innings of hitless, scoreless relief to notch the win after Duffy was charged with seven runs on seven hits and two walks over his 2 1/3 innings. Francisley Bueno gave up four hits but was aided by inning-ending double plays in each of his two shutout frames and gave way to Buddy Baumann, who recorded four outs before Michael Mariot came on to get the final two outs to register his sixth save of the season.

The series continues Tuesday night with Omaha right-hander Yordano Ventura taking the mound against Nashville right-hander Johnny Hellweg. Coverage of the game gets underway at 6:45 pm and can be heard locally on 1180 Zone 2 The Deuce and online at omahastormchasers.com.
