Ottawa Fury FC v Saint Louis FC

Saturday, August 24 - 2:00 p.m.

TD Place, Ottawa, ON

OTTAWA - Ottawa Fury FC started the back half of a two-game home stand with a great win on Saturday, when they defeated Saint Louis FC by a score of 2-1, in a game where they seemed in total control for the majority of the 90 minutes. Defeating them in their first encounter of the current season, Fury FC will be on their way to Saint Louis in just about a week and a half to face the same club once again.

Honoured pre-game by the club for recently playing his 150th game in an Ottawa Fury FC uniform, it seemed Carl Haworth got a big boost out of that, as he scored his eight goal of the season on a beautifully spotted free kick in the 10th minute. Hadji Barry gave Ottawa a 2-0 lead in the 34th minute, sending both teams to the dressing rooms with that same score line after 45 minutes. Sam Fink was the lone goal scorer for Saint Louis, as he converted a penalty in the 71st minute of play.

STORYLINES

Hadji Barry's goal was not only important because it ended up being the game winner, but also because it was his first in an Ottawa Fury FC uniform.

Forward Aidan Daniels also made a return to play on Saturday, entering the match in the 81st minute after he had missed some time due to injury.

Carl Haworth's free kick goal was his second scored in the same manner in just as many games.

Fury FC were moving the ball in a very fluid manner during this match, completing a total of 450 passes over 90 minutes.

Fury FC wont the game, but also led in all facets of the match, creating 13 shots, 5 on target, maintaining 52% of the possession, on top of having a 80.7% passing accuracy rate.

Callum Irving was not too busy in this game, with Saint Louis directing 9 shots toward goal, but with only 3 on target.

POST-GAME COMMENTS

Head Coach Nikola Popovic

"I think we were amazing in the first half and played beautiful football, created chances, scored goals and we were very well balanced. Then, in the second half after they got the red card, I think that kind of broke the game and there were chances for both sides, but we knew this team was very dangerous. We had chances to put the game to bed, we didn't and it stayed open until the end."

Defender Carl Haworth

"To be able to play so many games for the same team, especially in North America, it means a lot. This city has opened up to me and I call Ottawa home now, I love it here. It's been fantastic to grow over the years with the club and to see those messages from my past teammates, it was good to see and it definitely gave me a lift going into the game."
