Hawks Win Final Preseason Tilt

For the fourth time during the 2018 preseason, the Waterloo Black Hawks went to overtime, and Saturday, they celebrated a 1-0 shootout win versus the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders at Young Arena.
Vladislav Firstov scored the only goal during the four-round tie-breaker, rifling a shot past the glove of Blake Pietila while gliding from right to left across the slot. It was the Russian forward's second shootout conversion of the exhibition season. He also notched an overtime winner, all in the span of just over a week.
Jared Moe stopped all 23 Cedar Rapids shots in regulation and overtime, plus four shootout tries.
Pietila fished with 32 saves.
The feisty second period included 21 combined shots, five power plays, and a total of 93 penalty minutes.
With Saturday's preseason finale completed, the Hawks turn their attention next to the USHL Fall Classic in Pittsburgh. Waterloo's first official 2018/19 game will be against the Central Illinois Flying Aces at 4 p.m. Central Time on Friday.
