Wenatchee, Wash. - The Winterhawks captured their sixth U.S. Division title - and 15th divisional crown in team history - with a 5-3 win over the Wenatchee Wild at Town Toyota Center on Saturday night.
Portland's record now stands at 46-15-2-1 on the year (95pts, 1st U.S. Division), and the team has won seven consecutive games.
The Hawks opened the scoring through Marcus Nguyen on a rush chance 4:01 into the first period, then doubled their advantage with a Josh Mori snipe at 6:50 of the second. The Wild pushed back with a Hayden Moore tally shortly after Mori's goal, then knotted things up early in the third as Miles Cooper converted a power-play opportunity.
With the game deadlocked, Portland's Luca Cagnoni wired the go-ahead goal from long-range at 7:08, followed four minutes later by a power-play missile from Nate Danielson for the eventual game-winner. Kenta Isogai tacked on another for the hosts, but Nguyen iced the game with a late empty-netter.
Portland wraps up the week with a showdown in Seattle, taking on the Thunderbirds at Climate Pledge Arena for the "Battle on the Sound" on Sunday at 5:05 P.M.
