Lancaster JetHawks News Release
LANCASTER, Calif. - Nick Tanielu had five of the 16 hits for the JetHawks, as they put up seven runs in the first and cruised to a 19-5 rout of the Visalia Rawhide on Saturday night at The Hangar.
Tanielu's tremendous night was the first five-hit game by a JetHawk since Brett Phillips accomplished the feat on August 22, 2014. All five hits were singles and Tanielu also reached on an error. He added two RBI and scored twice as well.
The JetHawks knocked out Visalia starter Josh Collmenter, who was on a MLB rehab assignment from Arizona, after just two-thirds of an inning. Bobby Boyd doubled on the right-hander's second pitch, one of two hits for Boyd in the inning. After Jason Martin grounded to second to move Boyd to third, the next five batters reached. Two of the seven runs came in on Jamie Ritchie's two-run double. He reached his first times up in the game.
Lancaster added three in the second, two in the third and fourth, and five in the fifth. Boyd, who had three hits, Tanielu, Ritchie, Drew Ferguson, and Garrett Stubbs all had multi-hit nights for the JetHawks. Stubbs hit his first professional home run in the second inning, a three-run shot and a no-doubter to right field. He had four runs batted in. Ferguson drove in three for Lancaster.
Evan Grills (3-1) took the team lead in wins with five solid innings of work. The one blemish came in the fourth, when he allowed all four of his runs on the night with two out. Ericson Leonora hit a three-run homer to center. Grills struck out six, including four in a row at one point, walked two, and allowed only three hits.
Yefry Del Rosario was nearly perfect in his 2.1 innings out of the bullpen. He struck out four and allowed one hit, a triple to Tyler Baker, who scored on a wild pitch. Angel Heredia retired all four batters he faced with a strikeout to close out the game for the JetHawks. The JetHawks and Rawhide conclude their three-game series tomorrow afternoon at The Hangar with the rubber game. Elieser Hernandez (0-2) will start for Lancaster against Ethan Elias (1-1). First pitch is 2:05 p.m.
