
Hawks Halt Captains 7-2

Lake County Captains News Release
(South Bend, IN) - The Lake County Captains (25-23, 56-61) lost to the South Bend Silver Hawks (25-23, 60-58) by a final of 7-2. South Bend used a three run bottom of the sixth inning. The Silver Hawks batted around and used five hits including a two out single by Eric Groff wich gave South Bend a four run lead. The score was 6-2 headed to the seventh.
Lake County scored first in the fourth inning. With two outs, Jerrud Sabourin Singled home Jordan Smith and the Captains led 1-0. In the bottom of the Inning, South Bend took a 2-1 lead. With two outs and one run already home, Kerry Jenkins singled home Ryan Court and South Bend led 2-1.
Lake County got a run back in the fifth inning. Jake Lowery doubled to lead off the inning. With two outs Jose Ramirez singled home Lowery and the ballgame was tied 2-2. South Bend scored a run in the bottom of the fifth inning on a solo homerun by Eric Groff and the score was 3-2 South Bend.
The Silver Hawks scored their final run in the bottom of the seventh inning. With two outs, Ryan Court reached on an error and then stole second base. Court trotted home on a single by Kerry Jenkins and the score was 7-2 South Bend. That was the final score.
RHP Mason Radeke (5-6) got the start for Lake County. Mason Pitched five innings, allowing four hits, three earned runs, he walked one and fanned seven. Radeke also surrendered the homer to Eric Groff. Mason took the loss. Francisco Valera pitched two innings, allowing seven hits, four runs three earned, and allowed one walk. Cody Penny pitched a perfect eighth inning with two strikeouts.
LHP Keith Hessler (2-1) started the ballgame for South Bend. Hessler pitched six innings, allowing six hits, two earned runs, two walks and six strikeouts. Hessler earned the win. Alex Capaul earned the save after pitching three innings. Capaul allowed four hits and he fanned three.
Lake County will stay on the road in South Bend, IND. The Captains will continue three game series against the Silver Hawks. Lake County will start LHP Elvis Araujo (5-5, 3.67) and South Bend will counter with LHP Andrew Barbosa (2-2, 3.94). Game Time is at 2:05 PM
