Derek Arnold scored two third period goals, allowing the Waterloo Black Hawks to push past the Youngstown Phantoms for a 3-1 win on the road at the Covelli Center Friday evening.
The Phantoms cashed in on a turnover for the first goal of the night at 9:43 of the second period, when Taylor Holstrom flipped a puck over C.J. Motte's shoulder. Tyler Barnes banged in a rebound for the Black Hawks on the power play at 15:02 of the period to tie the score.
Waterloo took the lead at 10:03 of the third when J.T. Brown flipped a puck toward the net and Arnold batted it out of midair into an open side. Arnold finished the scoring into an empty net with 30.6 seconds remaining. Motte ended the night with 32 saves in the Black Hawk net.
The Hawks and Phantoms meet again Saturday, beginning at 6:15.
