Boise Hawks News Release
BOISE, Idaho - Felix Pena tossed five shutout innings of relief and Izaac Garsez slammed a two-run homer, helping the Boise Hawks to their fourth-straight win, a 4-1 victory over the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes, before 2,702 fans at Memorial Stadium.
The Hawks move to 13-5 in the second half of the year, winning their seventh game in eight outings.
After spotting the Volcanoes a quick 1-0 lead in the first on a Joe Rapp RBI double, Garsez answered with a long homer just inside the foul pole in right in the second to give the Hawks the lead for good. Dan Vogelbach added an RBI single in the fifth, and Trey Martin capped the scoring with an RBI single in the sixth.
It was enough for Pena, who retired 14 of the first 15 men he faced in relief for his second straight win, allowing just two hits and fanning four. Eddie Orozco retired 6-of-7 men to pick up his fourth save of the year.
Willson Contreras went 3-for-4 in the victory, with Gioskar Amaya and Martin each recording two hits for the Hawks. Stephen Branca went 3-for-4 in the loss for S-K.
Game 2 of the series is tomorrow night, with Justin Amlung meeting Joe Biagini at 7:15 p.m.
