Waterloo Black Hawks News Release
Waterloo, Iowa - The Waterloo Black Hawks have added 19-year-old goaltender JJ Cataldo of Stuart, Florida, the team announced Tuesday.
Prior to joining the Hawks, Cataldo had been a fixture in the crease for the Jersey Hitmen of the National Collegiate Development Conference. The NCDC leader in goals-against average (1.61) and save percentage (.955), Cataldo won his first nine appearances of the season, on his way to a 16-3-1 record. His season included eight shutouts, two of them featuring over 40 saves. Cataldo's success this season is a follow-up after he was 11-4-2 for the Hitmen in 17 games last year, posting a .922 save percentage.
"We are happy to add JJ to our roster," noted Black Hawks General Manager Bryn Chyzyk. "He has earned an opportunity to get a chance at our level as the result of his play this year in the NCDC."
Cataldo is the second Florida native on Waterloo's 2022/23 roster, joining forward Connor Brown of Estero.
In a similarly-timed move last February, the Hawks added netminder Jakub Tichy to bolster the team's goaltending corps for the latter half of the season.
Cataldo will be on the ice in a Hawks sweater for the first time this weekend as Waterloo plays two games against the Des Moines Buccaneers. Tickets for Saturday's 6:05 p.m. home game are available from the Domino's Black Hawks Box Office at (319) 291-7680 or by visiting tickets.waterlooblackhawks.com.
