Hawks Comeback Effort Falls Just Short in Everett

Portland increases its point streak to six straight games, but their road comeback falls one goal short in a shootout against Everett. The Hawks erased a 2-0 deficit through 40 minutes of hockey to earn one point in the standings against their northern rival.

The Everett Silvertips were rewarded with a power play shy of two minutes into the game, and they made it a 1-0 score. Silvertips captain Connor Dewar drove in a wrist shot from the right circle through a screen to take the early lead. About ten minutes later, the Silvertips scored their second power play goal of the night to make it 2-0. Bryce Kindopp located the puck lingering at the top of the crease and shoveled it in to start 2-for-2 on the man advantage.

The second period came and went without any scoring. The Winterhawks upped their productivity in the middle period, rattling off 18 shots on goal. Multiple times during the period, Portland was inches away from finding the back of the net, but Dustin Wolf shut the door each time.

In the third period, the Hawks came out of the locker room hot and heavy. Just over three minutes into the final period, Reece Newkirk caught the puck in the slot and outskated Wolf for the team's first of the night. Forty one seconds later, Ryan Hughes was given time and space on the left side circle and he fired it in to tie the game at two apiece.

With both teams earning one point, we went to overtime and saw five total shots, but the game was still tied at two through 65 minutes of play. Connor Dewar and Bryce Kindopp score in the shootout round to help Everett win 3-2 (2-1 in shootouts).

Shane Farkas put together an impressive performance, stopping a season-high 41 shots. His counterpart Wolf denied 39 of 41 in the contest.
