Waterloo Black Hawks News Release
Waterloo, Iowa - The Waterloo Black Hawks have traded for defenseman Tyler Procious in a deal with the Muskegon Lumberjacks announced by the teams Saturday.
The 5-foot, 10-inch, 174-pound Pittsford, New York, native is preparing for his second full season in the United States Hockey League. Procious also has appeared for the Omaha Lancers, who originally selected him during Phase I of the 2019 USHL Draft. In exchange, Waterloo dealt forward Charlie Strobel to the Lumberjacks.
"We are extremely excited to get Tyler with our group in Waterloo. We were looking to add a defenseman prior to the start of the season, and we felt Tyler was the right fit for us," said Hawks General Manager Bryn Chyzyk. "We would like to thank Charlie Strobel, for his time in Waterloo and we wish him all the best in Muskegon."
With the Lumberjacks in 2020/21, Procious notched a goal and four assists during 27 appearances. That included three points in his first five games. Procious delivered his first USHL goal against the Green Bay Gamblers on January 9th at the Resch Center. It was scored unassisted, tying that game at 2-2. Prior to last season, Procious appeared in three games for Omaha during 2019/20, while spending most of that season with the Buffalo Jr. Sabres.
Last winter, three players joined the Black Hawks after previous experience in Muskegon: goaltender Jack Williams, forward Alex Gaffney, and defenseman David Gucciardi. Another member of the 2020/21 Black Hawks - Nic Belpedio - had also previously been a Lumberjack.
Due to injury, Strobel was limited to 19 games for Waterloo with three goals and two assists.
The Black Hawks' first exhibition game is today in Sioux City versus the Tri-City Storm. Waterloo's first preseason game on home ice is Wednesday, September 15th against the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders. The Hawks also open their regular season Young Arena schedule versus the RoughRiders when Cedar Rapids returns on October 1st.
