Havoc downs Knoxville in overtime

HUNTSVILLE, AL - Jesse Baraniuk scored just :22 into overtime lifting the Huntsville Havoc to a 6-5 win over the Knoxville Ice Bears Thursday night.

Baraniuk scored first for the Havoc 6:43 seconds into the game giving the Havoc a 1-0 lead. Kevin Swider and Aaron Lewis scored in the first period to give Knoxville a 2-1 lead at the first intermission.

Ryan Brown tied the game 8:03 into the second before Swider answered with his second goal of the night :16 later pushing the lead to 3-2.

Craig Bushey tied the score at 3-3 one minute later and Nathan Daly gave Knoxville a 4-3 at the second intermission when he found the back of the net with 2:30 left in the period.

The Havoc came out hot in the third as Chris Peach scored just 1:12 into the third and Jonathan Lounsbury put the Havoc up 5-4 with 11:50 left. K.J. Voorhees scored with 5:30 left to tie the game.

Matt Carmichael got with after stopping 6-of-7 shots in the third period after relieving Jomar Cruz who stopped 15-of-19 in the first two periods. Jamie Ronayne stopped 36 in the loss. The Havoc outshot the Ice Bears 42-26.

Huntsville was 2-of-10 on the power play while Knoxville was 1-of-6. Knoxville finished with 47 penalty minutes on 18 infractions while Huntsville was whistled for 43 minutes on 17 infractions.

Huntsville is now in sole possession of third place and just four points behind Columbus for second. The Havoc will travel to Columbus tomorrow night before hosting the Florida Seals on Saturday night.
